Steps for making and studying High Temperature Superconductors

1.Programing stage, Dr. Abe Bidarian

2. Raw Chemicals for mixing to make YBCO Superconductors

3. Fusing the Superconductor powder

4. Forming the powder into pellets with different dies

5. Pressing the powder with a high precision press

6. Baking the pellet to 930  C, in an Oxygen atmosphere.

7. Storing the chemicals in a vacuum .

8. Drilling the corners of pellets for electrical connections.

9. Placing the pellet into the cold finger. and making the electrical connection to the switching system.

10. Closing the cold finger and evacuating the system.
      11. High vacuum system ~10^-7 torr

12. Helium Compressor for cooling the sample to 10 Kelvin

13. The instruments: Switching system, nanovoltmeter, current source, ammeter, heater, temperature controller, lockin-amplifier.

14.  Seven Tesla  Electro-Magnet to study the magnetic properties of the superconductors.  Cold finger tilts between the poles of the magnet.

15. Power supply for running the electro-magnet.

16. LabVIEW program "Data Collector" to run the experiments.

17. Storage for keeping the samples dry.
