TEXT: Conceptual Physics, + Practicing Physics 10th Edition
by Paul G. Hewitt.
Free  Web Text:  The Physics Classroom by Glenbrook

Objective: To provide non-science oriented students with a clear and logical presentation of basic concepts and principles of Physics. This course assumes no previous knowledge of Physics. The mathematics required consists of arithmetic and simple algebra. Bring text and notebooks to class, and let's take a look at the world that we live in!

Topics:
A review of simple algebra necessary for the course.Topics include: metric systems, measuring of space and time, speed, velocity, acceleration, falling objects, Newton's laws of motion, mass, force, weight, friction, gravity, circular motion, projectile motion, center of mass, stability, momentum, conservation of momentum, energy, kinetic energy, potential energy, work, power, efficiency .
Electrostatics- Coulomb's law, electric current, Ohm's law, Kirchhoff’s currents and voltage laws, parallel and series circuits, power, conductors, insulators and superconductors, magnetism, magnetic induction, and the earth as magnet, wave motion, sound, light, interference, resonance and lasers.
COURSE GRADING:

15%:  Attendance, and surprise quizzes (10 min. quizzes - usually very similar to homework or discussion of the last two lectures).
25%: 1st exam
25%: 2nd exam
35%: Final exam (Comprehensive)
Make-up exam may be available to eligible, excused students.
CHEATING: If you are caught, cheating , you simply fail the class with a grade of "F".

Suggestions :
1. Do all assigned reading prior to class (be prepared) and try to complete the assigned problems as soon as you can following class.

2. Try to work on Physics a little each day .

3. Memorize the rules as we study them ( you will not have a book or "cheat sheets" to use as a reference during exams).

4. Please - don't be afraid to ask questions - make the most out your time in class.

*Extra credit projects are possible  for grade C or better
