A Musical Celebration: The Life and Legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Join us for the "FREEDOM'S SOUL TOUR," a musical journey celebrating African American music from its inception. The Negro Spiritual serves as the inspiration and the spring board for exploring other genres like Gospel, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Funk and Hip-Hop. Celebrate a day of unity and diversity as prophesied by the late great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with performances by students from the SCSU community, a rare African American stamps and coins exhibition of African Americans from 1941 to 2009, and headlined by up and coming new artist Jonathan Blanchard.
Blanchard is a vocalist who is unmatched for his artistry and musical interpretation. Audiences throughout the Southeast find his voice to be amazing; He is a quick-change vocal artist who moves through Spirituals to Soul, Rhythm and Blues to Jazz with ease. Please visit his website for samples of his work: www.jonathanblanchard.com/index.php
The African American Stamps and Coins Exhibition is from 11:30AM to 2:30PM at the Adanti Student Center Pre-Function Area outside the Ballroom.
