V. Remediation: (see comments, dated 11/30/98 & 12/3/98). C. Discussion occurred among UCF members regarding the initial theme (diagnostics) and comments about remedial courses and the placement exam. Discussion included the following topics:
what does it mean to pass the placement exam?
can the placement exam be the final exam in remedial courses?
can we get the high schoolers who are coming to SCSU before they graduate so as to identify students who will need remedial work?
how can the placement exam be better publicized?
how can the placement exam be better coordinated with Summer advising and the New Student Orientation program?
what is the correlation of the SAT to the placement exam?
96% of incoming students take ENG 100 or 98; 4% take ENG 101
how do we address remedial issues for transfer students?
do students need remediation in all subject areas?
what resources already exist? what resources would be needed?
