Minutes 3/2/00

I. Call to Order:  The meeting was called to order by C. Serchuk at 9:35 am.  

II. Announcements:

  • Members were reminded to return the envelopes for mailings.
  • There will be meeting of the School Curriculum Committee for the School of Arts and Sciences on 3/10/00, 1:10-2:00, EN 115.
  • There will be a Mardi Gras concert, 3/7/00, 8:00pm, EN 115.
  • The Judaic Studies committee will have a luncheon discussion, 3/9/00, 12:15, Special Dining Room.
     

III. Approval of Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the previous UCF meeting (2/17/00) were approved.  Paperwork today included:

  • NPIC minutes, 2/28/00
  • NMC minutes, 2/24/00
  • UWIC minutes, 2/23/00
  • Status of UCF Actions on Bulleted Items, 2/17/00 from the Proposed Implementation of Freshman Requirements for Mathematics
  • Education/Special Education Collaborative Certification Program, July, 2000
  • MIS 200 New Course Proposal Form
  • UCC Guidelines for Level of Course Number, 5/3/84
     

IV. Committee Reports:

Steering:  C. Serchuk reported the faculty forum presentation about UCF went well.  Comments about communication and UCF processes were especially discussed by attendees.

Notifications Management:   (see minutes, 2/24/00).  P. Gallup highlighted these minutes. The minutes were accepted.

University Wide Impact: (see minutes, 2/23/00). P. Beals highlighted these minutes and commented on the topic of SHE and the all university health requirement.  This committee will develop a recommendation for the pre-registration period. The minutes were accepted.

New Programs and Innovations:  (see minutes, 2/28/00).  Report deferred. 

Program Review & Assessment: B. Gelbach reported that this committee needs additional members. 

V. Numbering of MIS 200: (see MIS 200 New Course Proposal Form, and UCC Guidelines for Level of Course Number, 5/3/84).  P. Gallup and G. Puerschner reminded members of the previous discussion about the numbering of this course.  R. Mullen commented on the course's content and discussion followed about how best to number this course.  Discussion also occurred about the numbering of all courses and the UCC document.

Motion 1:  A motion was made, seconded and passed by majority, with three abstentions

To reaffirm passing this course at the 200 level, with a prerequisite of sophomore status

VI. New Program Proposal from EDU/SED:  (see NPIC minutes, 2/28/00, and Education/Special  Education Collaborative Certification Program, July, 2000 proposal).  J. Ensign introduced this proposal and the minutes from NPIC.  Discussion followed regarding technology competencies, the CPR forms, the number of courses and credits in this program, the issue of art integration, the number of years required in this program, the second major, and minor content errors.

Motion 2:  A motion was made, seconded, and passed by majority, with three abstentions

To accept the program proposal as presented with the following revisions:  Minor corrections (per M. Macomber); Delete Math 298; Add Music classes in category 3; Adjust the number of credits; Clarify PCH classes within the Health requirement

VI. Adjournment:

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made, seconded and passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 am.
