November 2, 2000 Minutes

Present: Jon Bloch (chair), Kathy Mauro, Peggy Gallup, Nancy Disbrow, Vince Breslin, Beena Achhpal, George Puerschner, Dan Soneson, Joe Fields

Recorder: K. Mauro

  • A discussion was held on the cross referencing of ANT 312 (Medical Anthroplogy) and PCH 352 (Health, Disease and Culture). P. Gallup is bringing back the proposal to her department for discussion since the descriptions of both courses differ. She stated that the idea behind the proposal was that if a student registered for ANT 312 they could get credit for PCH 352. She indicated that the PCH course title may be changed to Medical Anthropology. It was also brought up that ANT 312 has a pre-requisite of ANT 101 and PCH 352 does not.
  • EXS BS - Human Performance Program Revision. To delete EXS 187 since the material is included in EXS 387. Outcome: P. Gallup made a motion that G. Puerschner seconded that we accept the change. Unanimously approved.
  • EXS BS - Athletic Training Program Revision. Included is:
    EXS 302 - Clinical Exp. I
EXS 303 - Clinical Exp. II
    EXS 388 - Rehabilitaion Techniques
EXS 402 - Clinical Exp. III
EXS 403 - Clinical Exp. IV

Proposal to include these new courses in the program and to delete EXS 498. The material covered in EXS 498 will be included in EXS 388. Discussion took place as to how Banner will note prerequisites in terms of "and" vs. "or." P. Gallup volunteered to contact Rick Ricardi about this. In the meantime, we agreed that "and's"/"or's" should be inserted between each pre-requisite course to insure accuracy. Also that the catalogue descriptions should be tightened up. Outcome: George made a motion and it was seconded by Nancy that we accept the proposal pending the changes in the catalog descriptions. Unanimously approved.

  • PSY 383 - Brain and Behavior. This included a note from the Biology department protesting that BIO was being dropped as a pre-requisite Following discussion, it was decided that J. Bloch would contact both departments, and if necessary set up a meeting(s) with NMC. More information is needed on this matter from both sides.

Other Business:

  • J. Bloch indicated that Sandra Lueder was in touch with him about the MKT 331 and 340 proposals re: the Communications Department's request for notification. J. Bloch will discuss this matter further with both departments.
  • J. Fields stated that he had done some WEB site investigations on the course numbering of Universities and only found that the state of Florida was the only state that had a unified course numbering system. N. Disbrow and he will continue to investigate this matter.
  • The committee also unanimously approved the minutes of 10/19/00.

Meeting adjourned at 10:40 am.

Next meeting 11/16 at 9:35 in the Alumni room.
