I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by J. Tait at 9:40 am.
II. Announcements:
- UCF Constitution will be voted on today
- 36th Annual North American Heidegger Conference May 10-12, 2002 Omni Hotel
- General Education Review Final Report to the UCF is ready, please get a copy
III. Approval of Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the previous UCF meetings (4/25/02) were approved. Paperwork today included:
- UCF Constitution
- Motion to Establish The Southern Writing Program
- Draft of Constitution Paragraph on the Writing Committee
- Writing Committee Proposal Review
- General Education Review Final Report to the UCF
IV. Writing Committee Structure:
- R. Page described three alternatives for the structure of the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee in terms of committee structure, membership, authority, and L-course approval process.
- Draft of Constitution Paragraph on the Writing Committee was discussed and constitutional language was amended to eliminate I. D in the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee proposal and to place additional language in I. C stipulating that in-depth review of L-courses approved by the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee should not normally require further in-depth review by the full UCF. Suggestion was accepted by a majority.
Moved by David Pettigrew:
Motion: To revise I. in the Draft of Constitution Paragraph on the Writing Committee to read: "The Writing Across the Curriculum Committee (WACC) supports the development of a culture of writing at Southern CT State University. It supports a culture of writing by:"
Motion failed. The language in the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee will remain as written
V. Constitution:
The following changes were approved by consensus for the new constitution:
- Chair would vote last and only if it is a deciding vote consistent with the procedure used by the Graduate Council Constitution.
- Amendments approved by UCF subject to approval by the Faculty Senate.
- Faculty Members At Large - decision was made to eliminate restrictions.
Motion: to approve the Constitution as we have just amended it including the language agreed upon for the Writing Committee
So moved. Second.

VI. Adjournment:
1. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
2. The meeting was adjourned at 10:50 am.
