I. Call To Order
The meeting was called to order by Jim Tait at 9:43 a.m.
II. Announcements
The Biology department disagrees with the position of the Arts and Science Curriculum Committee regarding Outcomes Assessment Language.
Joe Fields reminded members to consider attending the Seminar on Bilingualism being held today around 4:30 p.m.
III. Approval of Meeting Minutes
The UCF minutes of 2/26/04 were approved subject to some minor corrections. The UCF minutes of 3/11/04 were approved subject to some minor corrections.
IV. Standing Committee Reports
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee reviewed the Faculty Senate Rules Committee recommendations to the UCF constitution and recommended that we have a discussion on that document, get input, and refer it back to those who drafted the new constitution.
Notifications Management (NMC)
The NMC minutes of 3/18/04 were received.
Motion 1 regarding ECO 440, "European Economic Integration" was unanimously approved.
Motion 2 regarding COM 275, "Persuasion" was approved by a vote of 21 for, 4 against, and 6 abstaining.
Motion 3 regarding REC 431, "Current Practices in Therapeutic Recreation" was unanimously approved.
New Programs and Innovations (NPIC)
The NPIC minutes of 3/18/04 were received.
Program Review and Assessment (PRAC)
The PRAC minutes of 3/18/04 were received.
University-Wide Impact (UWIC)
The UWIC minutes of 3/18/04 were received subject to one minor correction.
Writing Across the Curriculum Committee (WACC)
The WACC Minutes of 3/19/04 were received.
Motion 1 regarding ENG 200L, "Intermediate Composition" as submitted by Ilene Crawford, was approved unanimously.
Motion 2 regarding ENG 301L, "Introduction to Literary Analysis and Critical Thinking" as submitted by Demian Pritchard, was approved unanimously
V. Discussion
Request by BOT to review math requirements
Mark Heidmann offered to work with Jim Tait to develop a document that indicates the curriculum development process within each department as a way of meeting the BOT requirement. UCF voted to accept Heidmann's offer.
Rules Committee Recommendations
Should the UCF accept the short "Preamble" or the longer "Guiding Principles" (which is preferred by the Rules Committee)? The UCF chair sought to get a sense of the body. The body voted in favor of the "Preamble" instead of the "Guiding Principles".
