I.  Call To Order

The meeting was called to order by Jim Tait at 9:42 a.m.

II.  Announcements

None.

III.  Approval of Meeting Minutes

The UCF minutes of 4/15/04 were approved.

IV.  Standing Committee Reports

Steering Committee

Discussed the end game for UCF for the rest of the semester and set agenda for today's meeting.

Notifications Management (NMC)

The NMC minutes of 4/22/04 were received subject to some minor corrections.

The following NMC motion was approved unanimously:

"That the course revision proposals for REC 300, 400, 321 and 391 be approved."

New Programs and Innovations (NPIC)

The NPIC minutes of 4/22/04 were received.

The following NPIC motions were approved unanimously:

Motion 1: That the following copy be included on the UCF web page under the heading Procedure for Offering Special Topics Course Sections:

Initial procedures for offering Special Topics X98 course sections:

1. The faculty member develops the X98 course section and completes the Special Topics Section Notification form, available on the UCF web site.

2. The proposal is reviewed and approved by the faculty member's DCC.

3. Three copies of the completed Special Topics Section Notification form (along with any support materials, if necessary) are submitted to UCF.

4. A Special Topics Section Notification form for a Special Topics X98 course section must be submitted each time the course is to be offered in time for the course to be included in the Schedule of Classes. Submission deadlines are included in the Forms section of the UCF web page under Special Topics Course.

Procedure for offering Special Topics X98 course sections that have already been offered:

Three copies of a new Special Topics Section Notification form or an updated photocopy of the original are submitted to UCF by the department chair or the course instructor in time for the course to be included in the schedule of classes. Submission deadlines are included in the Forms section of the UCF web page under Special Topics Course.

Motion 2: That the Special Topics Section Notification Form be modified as follows:

The following copy be inserted after the line "Semester that the Special Topics Section will be offered". The proposed insertion is:

Has this special topics section been taught before? Yes No

If "Yes" please list the semester(s):

1st time:

2nd time:

3rd time:

That the line for "Section Title" and the line for "Schedule Listing Title" be removed and replaced with a single line as follows:

Section Title (as it will appear in the Schedule of Classes)

Program Review and Assessment (PRAC)

The PRAC minutes of 4/22/04 were received.

Writing Across the Curriculum Committee (WACC)

The WACC minutes of 4/16/04 were received.

The following WACC motions were approved unanimously:

Motion 1: That REC 381L as submitted by Deborah Smith be approved.

Motion 2: That ECO 440L as submitted by Yilma Gebremariam be approved.

V. Election of new UCF Chair

Joe Fields of the Mathematics Department was elected as the new UCF Chair. He will be seated at the next UCF meeting, to be held on May 13, 2004.

VI. Vote on revisions to the UCF constitution

The revisions to the UCF constitution have been approved by the UCF by a vote of 37 for, 0 against, and 1 abstaining.

VII. Vote on UCF by-laws

The UCF by-laws and guiding principles were approved by a vote of 37 for, 0 against, and 0 abstaining, subject to the revision of Article V (B), which should be amended to read: "No absentee ballots or proxies shall be permitted for UCF business."

VIII. Voting requirements for changing AUR's

Glenda DeJarnette moved the following motion:

"Proposals concerning All University Requirements; major changes to All University Requirements shall be ratified by a simple majority of those full-time faculty members voting in the referendum as conducted by the Senate Elections Committee."

The motion was tabled.
