I.  Call To Order

The meeting was called to order by Jim Tait at 9.42 a.m.

The approval of the UCF minutes of February 26, 2004 meeting was deferred until Dean Fredeen confirms the accuracy of the minutes as recorded.

The following parts of NPIC's previously tabled motion concerning Special Topics courses were approved:

"For inclusion as the first item on the UCF web page for Special Topics Courses:

Special Topics (X98) courses are offered periodically on an "experimental basis" reflecting faculty interests on topically important subjects. These are typically courses in the process of development. Special topics courses are not a permanent part of the curriculum, and may be offered at most three times.

For inclusion in the new Special Topics Section of the Schedule of Classes book:

Special Topics (X98) courses are offered periodically to reflect faculty interests and/or address topically important subjects. Special Topics courses are not a permanent part of the curriculum, and may be offered, at most, three times.

To be added to the end of item 5 of the Special Topics Instructions on the UCF web page.

The WACC minutes of February 20, 2004 were received.

The UCF is looking at getting adequate coverage for both UCF and WACC by supporting that Christine Stanton's position be made full time. The support was unanimous.

V.  Discussion

Special Topics

NPIC requested that clarifying information be included on the UCF web page regarding Special Topics. The Chair of the UCF will convey to the chairs of the various departments any decision reached with respect to Special Topics (X98). See above.

It was acknowledged that the procedure outlined in the NPIC minutes of March 4, 2004, page, no 4, represents a change from the existing practice.

Outcomes Language

The Arts and Sciences School Curriculum Committee has a practice of asking for outcomes language for new and revised course proposals. Ilene Crawford from the English Department, who is also the Chair of the Arts and Sciences School Curriculum Committee, made a presentation on this issue. She sought to get UCF clarification on the following questions:

1. Is the Arts and Sciences School Curriculum committee making a request it ought not make of course proposers?

2. Would the UCF consider requiring outcomes language in new and revised course

proposals as the Graduate Council does of its proposers?

A motion made by Ken Gatzke to refer this issue to a UCF subcommittee for discussion was tabled.

VI. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 10.50 a.m.

Minutes recorded by:

Emmanuel N. Emenyonu.
