Presentation of Proposals from Communications
The committee received revised program proposals for Communications. Karen Burke raised some items after inquiry with Christine Stanton. She asked for confirmation of when Communications created minors, and if Communications made a change to a minor without going through UCF. The change in question is eliminating MDS 245 from one of their minors.
Rich Glinka will discuss this with the Communications Department, and Karen will look through her records, as well.
This discussion led to two items. Lynn Kohrn recommended that departments submit copies from the current course catalog, reflecting the change(s), which can be forwarded to John Mattia after requisite approvals. Second, Lynn notified the committee that the word 'specialization' has been replaced with 'concentration' since the latter is recognized by CAPP. The new course catalog should reflect this word change and departments are encouraged to adopt this change, so as not to confuse students.
Presentation of Proposals from Foreign Languages Department: German
(Joe Fields joined the NMC for this discussion)
Dan Soneson attended the meeting to answer questions the committee raised after reviewing four proposals previously submitted. Dan submitted a flowchart for the committee's review as he described the sequencing of German courses, identified as University Requirements on the proposal form.
Dan clarified the question regarding the final project and students' capabilities to complete it, which was more a question of how would students be graded on this project. Dan explained his grading rubric to the committee members' satisfaction.
The committee asked Joe Fields for time during or after the next UCF meeting to discuss the German proposals with UWIC.
Motion:
Revised course PCH 362 be approved.
