New Business

  • FYE - Nicole Henderson and Nikos Chrissidis, chairpersons of the Ad Hoc Temporary First Year Experience (FYE) Committee presented an update on FYE. The greatest concern is that although approximately 40 sections of FYE will be needed in the fall, there are currently only approximately 20 faculty who have expressed an interest in teaching the course.  The committee will continue its efforts to recruit faculty to teach FYE.  There are no immediate plans to incorporate ENG 111 into FYE.  The policy for faculty release time for those who teach FYE was reviewed.
  • Flow of Proposals - A discussion was begun regarding the Flow of Proposals Document.  The role of the Deans as well as the School Curriculum Committees was reviewed but only discussed briefly due to time constraints.  It was noted by Dr. Weiss, who met during the past week with the chairs of the SCCs that the committees differ widely.

MOTION:  A motion was made by Dr. Weiss that the Steering Committee review the Flow of Proposal Document, Version 12 with special attention to the role of the Deans.

The motion was passed unanimously.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:52 am.
