Proposals:
- CSC 306 - Internet Multimedia
- CSC 307 - Internet Programming II
Both courses were returned to the department for coversheets. Vote: 8-0-1.
Other business:
A. Statements on online courses
Two opinions were discussed, whether the online courses should be treated as revised courses or existing courses. The following pros and cons of each side were discussed:
Existing
- Elements remain the same:
- Title
- Objectives
- Prerequisites
- Rationale
- Course outline
- Bibliography
- Faculty member teaching
- Qualifications of students
- Where to draw the line on significant change
- Technology is improving, there is a blurring of distinction
- Present system is to take an existing course and teach it online
- Time better spent
- Academic freedom
- Another roadblock to teaching online
Revised
- Different contact hours
- Different delivery
- Could have other elements different
- Student information/legality
- Keeping control of courses with the university (curriculum purview of the faculty), not with CSU
- Minimal paperwork
- Affective outcomes
One recommendation was to look at what other universities have done.
B. Old Business
- Website checklist - Joe Fields and John Bloc will sit with Susan Tiso and webmaster to update
- Statement of purpose - distributed for review
- Constitution - NMC responsibilities will be presented at regular UCF. A suggestion was made to bring a copy of the old constitution for comparison.
C. Other
Suggestion was made to revisit our forms and see if we want a space for minority reports to be included.
