- B. A., Media Studies: Following discussion with the UCF Steering Committee, UCF Chair Jim Tait met with the NMC to discuss this proposal, which technically has been classified as a program "modification," as opposed to a revision. Following discussion with Jim Tait, the NMC decided to review this proposal within its usual guidelines for revisions, and then refer it to the Steering Committee. Following further discussion, J. Fields made a motion to accept within these guidelines for revisions, pending the following minor corrections:
- Signatures and/or memos are needed from the Art and Theatre Departments, as they are impacted by the proposal.
- There is a "translation" form for students that incorrectly does not list SOC/WMS 404 with its electives outside the major. This same form also could make more clear to students the differences between the old and new CPR forms; changes in line numbers are slightly confusing in the present version.
- A listing of the MDS electives needs to be brought up to date.
V.Breslin seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Following the meeting, J. Bloch sent a detailed memo to the Steering Committee, requesting prompt action.
3. New courses:
- MDS 350 (Resistive Vernaculars: Hip Hop, Rap and Signifyin[g]): K. Mauro made motion to accept; B. Achhpal seconded. Passed unanimously.
- SOC 473 (Qualitative Research Methods): V. Breslin made motion to accept, pending correction of minor typos; K. Burke seconded. Passed unanimously.
- SOC 317 (Women of Color in the U. S.): K. Burke made motion to accept, pending acknowledgment of notification from Women's Studies.
