Notifications Management Committee Minutes
December 5, 2002 (amended)
Present: Jon Bloch (chair), Kathy Mauro, Nancy Disbrow, Karen Burke, Wes O'Brien, Benna Achlpal
Recorder: K. Mauro
ENG 100- Composition and ENG 101- Composition II: A lengthy discussion took place about the 2 courses. Points of concern that were brought up were the following:
- How many credits will a student get for it transferring in to SCSU?
- This would be an additional cost to students for the wintersession, summer, or as a part-time student.
- Additional mandatory time- when would that be? Shouldn't students know before registering for their scheduling purposes?
- How does this affect AUR requirements? Total number of credits for AUR is increased and changes the number of credits students may need for graduation.
- Catalogue description for ENG 101 "continuation of work". What about the student who is placed into ENG 101 automatically?
The NMC decided to refer the proposals to the Steering Committee.
MDS 350 - Hip Hop, Rap & Signifying: It was discussed that it should have a side letter from SOC/ANT and Music that indicates there is no problem with the development of the course in the area of Media Studies. Nancy made a motion to accept pending letters or e-mails from departments and Karen seconded it. Motion approved unanimously.
MDS 450 - Sex, Violence & the American Dream: Nancy made a motion to accept and Beena seconded it. Motion approved unanimously.
Business Administration - Accounting CPR - Eliminate line 34 requirement which is one course from a group of courses and change the number of credits in the major from 63.0 to 60.0. Karen made a motion to approve and Wes seconded it. Motion approved unanimously.
SOC 200 - Adventures in Sociology: Discussion about the rationale for changing the course title and credit hours took place. It was agreed that it should be sent back for a more developed reason for the change.
Meeting adjourned at 10:45 am.
