NOTIFICATIONS MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
MINUTES 2/20/03
Amended 2/27/03
Present: J. Bloch (Chair), V. Breslin, K. Burke, J. Fields, R. Glinka,
L. Kohrn, W. O'Brien
1. SOC 200 (Adventures in Sociology)
Given concerns about the four-credit course with lab component of this specific
proposal as well as NMC's general role in determining the validity of
lab components in proposals, as well as the issue of having a standard
policy for 4-credit courses with labs, UCF Chair James Tait came to the
meeting. His direction was for the NMC to determine if a) the proposed
course and the lab thereof seemed consistent with the direction and
goals of the sociology program, and b) if the course needed this
4-credit lab in order to accomplish its goals. Sociology Chair Shirley
A. Jackson spoke to these and other issues pertaining to the course.
K. Burke made a motion to accept the proposal; W. O'Brian seconded it.
Motion passed 3-2-1.
2. HIS 218 (The History of Rome from its origins to Caesar)
K. Burke made a motion to accept. J. Fields seconded. Motion passed 6-0-0.
3. HIS 316 (History of Ancient Greece)
J. Fields made a motion seconded by V. Breslin that the proposal be
returned for clarification in two areas: 1) The issue of a 300-level
course not having any prerequisites; 2) Further information in the
rationale as to why this new course, stemming from HIS 221, is being
offered at the 300-level.
4. Discussion with L. Kohrn
L. Kohn explained some features of the new CAPP system, and answered
questions on how it worked. She stated that given that CPR forms were
part of CSUSIS and so will no longer be generated, proposed program
changes can now be made simply submitting typed lists of the old and
new programs, rather than submitting old and revised CPR forms.
5. The NMC did not have time to address the following proposals just received:
ANT/FLA 204 (Language and Culture)
EDU 201 (Introduction to the Teaching Professions)
SOC/WMS 215 (Women in Society)
***
NOTE: As per subsequent discussions with the History Department, HIS 218 will be withdrawn and then resubmitted for approval as HIS 317.
