Notifications Management Committee (NMC)
Minutes of 3/18/04

Present

K. Burke,  B. Butera,  J. Fields,  R. Glinka,  C. S. Kim, G. Kowalczyk,  J. Manzella, K. Mauro, M. Vancour.

I.    Proposals
Proposals reviewed today: ECO 440, COM 275, REC 300, REC 321, REC 391, REC 400, REC 431.

ECO 440, "European Economic Integration" had been previously submitted and returned to its originator with several suggested changes.  The committee found the revised proposal to be much improved.  K. Burke moved for acceptance, with K. Mauro seconding.  The motion carried 6-0-0.

COM 275, "Persuasion" had also been previously submitted and had been passed pending a letter of notification from Media Studies.   The Media Studies chair, Rosemary Conforti, submitted a letter detailing various changes that their department would like to see in this course proposal.  The proposal contact person, Bonnie Farley-Lucas responded by revising the proposal and including two letters, one detailing the revisions and the other voicing objections to the philosophy of the letter from MDS.  After some discussion, K. Mauro moved for approval, M. Vancour seconded.  Discussion continued and K. Burke raised the point that the members of Media Studies who were CC'ed on the memos from Communications had not, in fact, received them.  K. Burke volunteered to ask Wes O'Brian to visit our meeting (he was, to her knowledge, teaching in a nearby classroom).  Wes O'Brian joined the meeting and among other points let us know that neither he nor Rosemary Conforti were in receipt of the memos. After additional discussion, the motion to approve was brought to a vote and passed 6-1-0.  Member K. Burke asked that her strenuous objection be noted in the minutes.

Each of the proposals REC 300, REC 321, REC 391 and REC 400 had substantive flaws and the committee voted (unanimously) in each of these cases to return them to their originator for corrections.

REC 431, "Current Practices in Therapeutic Recreation," a revised course proposal, was considered next.  The revision consisted in a change of the prerequisite.  K. Burke moved for its approval with J. Manzella seconding.  The motion carried 7-0-0.

II.    Motions

Persuant to the above, the NMC brings the following motions to the UCF:
