Notifications Management Committee (NMC)
Minutes of 11/06/03
Present
K. Burke, J. Fields, R. Glinka, G. Kowalczyk, K. Mauro.
I. Proposals
There were 3 proposals for review today: revisions to PCH 242, PCH 353 and PCH 375.
The revision of PCH 242, Introduction to Epidemiology, involved changing the prerequisites. Students have been allowed to take the prerequisite courses (MAT 107 and/or PCH 202) concurrently. The revision would make these true prerequisites.
K. Burke moved for approval, R. Glinka seconded. The motion carried 5-0-0.
The revision of PCH 353, World Health, involved adding a prerequisite. In the past, there was no prerequisite for PCH 353. The proposal asks that Junior status be added as a prerequisite. Discussion ensued as to the appropriateness of requiring Junior status as a prerequisite and the question of whether the Banner system can actually enforce such a prerequisite arose. After the discussion, K. Burke moved for approval of the proposal as submitted, G. Kowalczyk seconded. The motion carried 5-0-0.
The revision of PCH 375, Public Health Education, involved weakening the prerequisite. The current prerequisite is PCH 202. The proposal asks that the prerequisite become PCH 202 or Junior status. G. Kowalczyk moved for approval, K. Mauro seconded.
The motion carried 5-0-0.
II. Motions
Pursuant to the above, the Notifications Management Committee hereby submits the following motion:
That the revisions of PCH 242, PCH 353 and PCH 375 be approved by the UCF.
III. Other business
The question as to what specifically constitutes "Junior status" and similar phrases should be discussed by the UCF. We need to ascertain whether Banner can indeed check such a prerequisite.
IV. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 10:15 a.m.
