Notifications Management Committee (NMC)

Minutes of 10/23/03

Present

B. Achhpal, K. Burke, J. Fields, R. Glinka, C. Kim, G. Kowalczyk, K. Mauro, M. Vancour.

I. Proposals

There were 3 proposals for review today: a revision to the "K-12 Comprehensive Special Education Certification" program, and revisions of HIS 240 and HIS 241.

Regarding the Special Education program, a typographic problem on the new CPR form was noted (this has been corrected); also, as there are Psychology courses which will be affected by the proposed change, a signature from the Psychology department would be appropriate. K. Burke moved that the proposal be approved pending these changes, M. Vancour seconded. The motion passed 8-0-0.

The HIS 240 and 241 course revisions were considered as a group. The major change(s) for these courses were in their titles, previously they were called "History of Middle Eastern Civilization" I and II, which gave students the mistaken impression that they were a sequence (with I being a prerequisite for II). New titles, "The Middle East from Muhammad to the Mongols" and "The Modern Middle East" better represent their content. Catalog descriptions were also updated. B. Achpal moved for approval, K. Mauro seconded. The motion passed 8-0-0.

II. Motions

Pursuant to the above, the Notifications Management Committee hereby submits two motions:

  1. That the revision of the K-12 Comprehensive Special Education Certification program be approved by the UCF subject to the receipt of a letter or signature indicating notification from the Psychology department.
  2. That the revisions to HIS 240 and HIS 241 be approved by the UCF.

III. Adjournment

The meeting adjourned at 10:05 a.m.
