I. Proposals

The only proposal under consideration was a revision of FRE 496, Advanced French Grammar. This revision only involves changing the course number (from FRE 498 to FRE 496), as this course was on the books before the decision to reserve numbers of the form X98 for special topics courses. The proposal materials were not typed. K. Burke made a motion to accept the proposal pending its resubmission in typed form, J. Manzella seconded, the proposal was approved unanimously (8-0-0)


II. Other Business

The committee began a discussion concerning on-line forms. After much discussion, a consensus opinion arose concerning characteristics that would be useful in our forms.

  1. Ease of use.
  2. Drafts can be saved. (Not currently possible with the PDF forms.)
  3. Electronic submission.
  4. Typeset version can be viewed and printed at any time (i.e. before submission).

Neither the Microsoft Word nor Adobe PDF versions of the forms currently meet all of these criteria. J. Manzella suggested that developing better forms might be a good project for student workers.

Possible solutions include:

  1. Improve the MS Word versions.
  2. Improve the PDF versions (or) get site license for Acrobat.
  3. An HTML fill-out form connected to a database and a separate typesetting facility.
