Notifications Management Committee Minutes
February 3, 2005
Present: Jane Feng, Rich Glinka, Roy Hunter, Gregory Kowalczyk, Richard Kustin, Kathy Mauro, Troy Rondinone, Michele Vancour (recorder)
The committee discussed two proposals: NUR 457, a new course proposal and PCH 497, a revised course proposal.
NUR 457
A new course proposal was received and reviewed for NUR 457: Advanced Concepts: Selected Health Issues for Practice. The committee recommends that the course have a prerequisite as it is at the 400-level. There was a discussion about the changes to the nursing requirements eliminating CHE 125, as well as there being no course prerequisite to support the pharmacology content indicated in the course goals and objectives. The catalogue description seemed to be long. In addition, the course, as planned, is intended as an on-line course, and it is the impression of the committee that there is another group on campus responsible for reviewing and approving on-line courses.
The committee tabled a decision on this course, pending a presentation by the faculty member proposing the course at the next NMC meeting.
PCH 497
A revised course proposal was received and reviewed for PCH 497: Public Health Internship. The revision involves the substitution of department permission for the prerequisite of having completed all public health coursework.

Cross-listing and Course Numbering
Kathy received two lists of courses as recorded in Banner and CUSIS from Kim Laing. The fact that course numbers can be reused after ten consecutive years of nonuse was discussed in relation to the list of courses. Roy suggested that the lists of course numbers be published on-line for ease in verifying time since last offering, and attributing unused numbers to new courses.
The committee discussed numbering cross-listed courses, and decided that cross-listed courses do not need the same number in each department, but that the numbers should be at the same level (100, 200, 300, or 400). Also, cross-listed courses should have the same or comparable prerequisites. Examples: (1) ANT 323 Women in Prehistory, cross-listed with WMS 323 Women in Prehistory, prerequisites: 6 credits in ANT, SOC, or WMS; (2) ENV 491 Seminar in Environmental Studies, cross-listed with MAR 491 Seminar in Environmental and Marine Studies, prerequisites: ENV = ENV 300 and 301, MAR = MAR 150 or ENV 300 and 301.
Motion: Revised course PCH 497 be approved.
