Notifications Management Committee Minutes
March 3, 2005 (revised)

Present:   Karen Burke, Gregory Kowalczyk, Rich Glinka, Nancy Disbrow,Roy Hunter, Michele Vancour, Richard Kustin, Kathy Mauro

Recorder: K. Mauro

The committee met and discussed the following proposals.

  • MAT 139-A Short Course in Calculus for the Social Sciences

A change in the course prerequisite from Mat 120 or 122  to a C- in either Mat 120 or 122 was made to the course.

Motion- Karen Burke, second - Roy Hunter to accept
Motion passed 8-0

  • PSY 370 - Educational Psychology

A discussion took place about the course being a 300 level course and changing the prerequisite from 6 credits in psychology to only 3 credits is psychology and either junior or senior status. The rationale explained that although all the 300 level courses had 6 credits as a prerequisite it was a problem for Secondary education majors to take the course since they only needed to take PSY 100.
Indicating that the student needed either junior or senior status still kept it as an upper level course.  This revised course proposal changes the prerequisite from 6 credits in PSY to PSY 100 and junior or senior standing.

Motion- Michele Vancour, Second-Roy Hunter
Motion passed 8-0

  • PSY 371- Educational Psychology for Early Childhood Majors

The change to this course was the change of the prerequisite from 6 credits in psychology to 3 credits and either junior or senior status.  This revised course proposal changes the prerequisite from 6 credits in PSY to PSY 100 and junior or senior standing.  This was in line with the PSY 370 since they are taught as a dual listed course.

Motion-Richard Kustin, Second-Karen Burke
Motion passed 8-0

  • GER 201-Continuing German: Contemporary German Culture

This was a new course proposal. There was a discussion that the catalogue description indicated that Ger 201,202,203 could be taken in any sequence and it indicated that it was a university requirement. There was question whether it came before us or UWIC. Also there was a discussion from the committee about what was required from the student for a final project and the syllabus or outline did not indicate whether the student was being instructed on how to do this in the class. The committee felt that there were some unanswered questions and decided to table the course and invite Dan Soneson to our next NMC meeting to clarify.

  • GER 202-Continuing German: Exploring a German City

This was a new course proposal. This was tabled to be discussed with Dan Soneson for the same reasons as GER 201.

  • GER 203- Continuing German: Exploring German Culture through Tales, Stories and Films

This was a new course proposal. This was tabled to be discussed with Dan Soneson for the same reasons as Ger 201.

  • GER 210- German IV

This was tabled to be discussed with Dan Soneson since it indicated that it was a university requirement and had one of the above courses listed as a prerequisite.

  • MKT 330- Retail Management

This was a revised course proposal. The only change was in the title from Principles of Retailing to Retail Management. This was to better reflect the current retail-business atmosphere.

Motion-Karen Burke, Second-Nancy Disbrow
Motion passed 8-0

  • MKT 334- Professional Selling

This was a new course proposal.

Motion-Nancy Disbrow, Second-Michele Vancour

  • MKT 450- Strategic Marketing

This was a new course proposal.  The committee discussed that the prerequisites should be changed from senior standing and core courses completed to senior standing and MKT 321, MKT 425 and MKT 427.
