Notifications Management Committee Minutes
May 5, 2005
Present: Karen Burke, Gregory Kowalczyk, Rich Glinka, Nancy Disbrow,Roy Hunter, Richard Kuskin, Troy Tondinone, Kathy Mauro
Recorder: K. Mauro
We had the following guests at the meeting to explain the course proposals:
Cynthia Gubitose and Alain D'Amour from the Math department. Barbara Aronson from the Nursing Department.
The committee met and discussed the following proposals.
- MAT 095-Elementary Algebra
A discussion took place about the course credit changing from 0 to 3.0. Our previous question was that the course was being changed to 3.0 credits so that students would do better in the course because it was a credited course and it would affect the GPA, but the catalogue description indicated 0 credits. After a discussion with Lynn Kohrn and reading an e-mail from her she indicated that they would ask IT to write a program in which the course would be used to calculate the student's GPA, but the credits would be subtracted from those used towards graduation. It was suggested that the catalogue description indicate that the course does not count towards graduation.
Motion- Karen Burke, second - Nancy Disbrow to accept
Motion passed 8-0
- MAT 100-Intermediate Algebra A & B
Since MAT 095, previously a non-credit course, was changed to 3.0 credits that Mat 100 be changed to a 3.0 credit course.
Motion- Karen, Second- Nancy Disbrow to accept
Motion passed 8-0
- MAT 101-Intermediate Algebra A
Since Mat 100 went to a 3.0 credit course and this is half of the information that is covered in Mat100 then this course should go from 1.0 to 1.5 credits.
Motion-Nancy Disbrow, Second-Karen Burke to accept
Motion passed 8-0
- MAT 102-Intermediate Algebra B
Since Mat 100 went to a 3.0 credit course and this is the second half then this course should go from a 1.0 to 1.5 credits.
Motion-Nancy Dibrow, Second-Karen Burke to accept
Motion passed 8-0
Barbara Aronson then explained the rationale for the new course and the program change to the BSN.
- NUR 412-Nursing Capstone
This was a new course proposal. This course will require the students to provide comprehensive care to patients, families, groups of patients and the community. It will prepare the students for the role of graduate registered nurse. This will be a 4.0 credit course
Motion-Nancy Disbrow, Second-Rich Glinka to accept
Motion passed 8-0
- BSN program
This was a change in the sequencing of the courses that the students would take in Nursing and adding of the NUR 412 to the program. The Nursing major went from 50.0 to 54.0 credits and the BSN program now requires a completion of 128.0 credits.
Motion-Nancy Disbrow, Second-Greg Kowalczyk
Motion passed 8-0
- THR 400-Theatre Methods for K-12
A discussion took place about this new course. The proposal indicated that it would be a required course for those who had a joint major in education and an elective in the program for other theatre majors. The committee decided that this course be tabled and a motion was made by Karen Burke and seconded by Nancy Disbrow that the proposal be returned to the department fro the following reasons:
- Liked the concept, but because it is dealing with teaching methodology it should go to the Education department for it to be signed off on.
- This is really a program revision and should have a form to go along with it, since it would be a requirement in the major.
- There needs to be more work on the grading, bibliography (only one text) and the learning objects.
It is possible that by sending the proposal to the Education department there may be some help or clarification for the above.
Motion-passed 8-0
