Present: Karen Burke, Gregory Kowalczyk, Nancy Disbrow, Lynn Kohrn, Jane Feng,Roy Hunter, Troy Rondinone, Kathy Mauro
Recorder: K. Mauro
The committee met, but we had no proposals to discuss. We discussed the criteria that is used to accept and review proposals. The committee decided that the criteria that is cited in the "Flow of Proposals", Directions for preparing a revised course proposal and Directions for preparing a new course proposal seem quite explicit. It was stated that maybe we could add some additional wording to "Learning objectives".
We discussed bringing the proposed change before the entire UCF.
Karen, Roy and Nancy made a suggestion that we add under # 4 on the directions new course proposals the following:
4. Learning objectives and learning outcomes. The course learning objectives will state the skills and knowledge the students are expected to gain from this course. Learning outcomes will be listed if they are determined to be necessary by the department
#4 on the directions for revised course proposals to add the following:
4. Learning objectives and learning outcomes. When a course involves making significant changes in the course content, then the new learning objectives should be part of the proposal. These objectives will state the skills and knowledge the students are expected to gain from the course. It is useful to include the old objectives along with a brief explanation of the changes. Learning outcomes will be listed if they are determined to be necessary by the department.
Under the "Flow of Proposals" under Departments after "...review is conducted at the department level." The department will determine if learning outcomes will be listed on the proposals. "Upon successful review, one..."
The above recommendation was agreed upon by the committee.
Nancy and Karen indicated that a copy of the directions and the "Flow of proposals should be copied and sent to the Chairs of the DCC.
It was suggested that we send along a copy of the "Flow of proposals", Directions for a New Course Proposal and Directions for a Revised course proposal that are on UCF's website for the next UCF meeting. Therefore members can see what is written and what the committee's new proposal is.
The meeting was adjourned.
