Notifications Management Committee Minutes

September 22, 2005

Present:  Roy Hunter, Mary Kiarie, Lynn Kohrn, Tricia Lin (co-chair), Kathy Mauro, Troy Rondinone, Michele Vancour (recorder, co-chair)


The committee discussed four proposals: WMS 499, JRN 311, PCH 432, ENG Revision Program Proposal.

WMS 499 - a proposal was received to create a three-credit independent study option (WMS 499, Women's Study Independent Study) for the Women's Study Program.  The new course proposal was not recommended at this time as it was missing a rationale and signature from the School Curriculum Committee. 

JRN 311 - a revised course proposal was received for TV News Workshop.  The revision called for a change in prerequisites: COM 253 (Fundamentals of Video Production) or JRN 210 instead of COM 360 (Video Field Production) or JRN 210 or Dept. permission.  The proposal was accompanied by a letter of support from Jos Ullian, Chair of Communication Department.

PCH 432 - a revised course proposal was received for Health Promotion Planning and Evaluation.  The revision called for the addition of PCH 340, Public Health Research, to the list of current prerequisite courses (PCH 430 and PCH 431).

ENG - a revised program proposal form was received for the Bachelor of Science in English with Certification to Teach Grades 7 - 12.  The revisions called for the following changes:

  • Requirement of ENG 405 (The Teaching of Writing - formerly one option among a list of requirements);
  • Adding ENG 415 (The History of the English Language) as a requirement;
  • Adding ENG 492 (Teaching Literature to Adolescents) as a requirement - in place of EDU 497 (Poetry in the High School) or EDU 498 (The Novel in High School);
  • Adding ENG 317 (Cross-Cultural Literature) as a requirement; and
  • MDS 340 (Media Literacy Education for Students and Teachers) as a requirement.
