New Program in Anthropology
Discussion of cognates and impact on other departments was considered. Geography department is in full support of the proposed Anthropology Program and will add a letter of support to the proposed major.

A careful examination of the checklist was reviewed. In this proposal, the rationale was thought to be inadequate, mistakes were found on the CPR forms, and reservations were expressed about the course cognates in various concentrations.

Dr. Gerber has shared that he will write a letter of support and Academic Affairs commitment for staff for the proposed program so that it may move forward.

Discussion of marketing of program and numbers of students who may be brought on in the future was held.

***A motion was made and seconded to approve the program pending the successful completion of the revisions suggested by the group as follows:

  1. Expansion of the rationale
  2. Technical problems with the CPR forms are rectified
  3. Concern with the cognates

6 in favor, 1 abstention

The committee also discussed SCSU's policy on recognizing minors as well as majors. This topic will be looked at again in the future.

The committee discussed the concept of grade replacements for students who have failed a class, have retaken the class and subsequently passed. It was suggested that in other institutions the failing grade appears on the transcripts, but does not figure into the student's GPA. Whether SCSU should consider this was addressed. Some thought was that this notion, if considered, may be an issue for the Senate to consider.
