Committee meeting minutes from 02/20/03
Members present: William Elwood, Sandy Lueder, Troy Paddock (chair) Michele Thompson, Chuck Wieder. Invited guest; Christine Barrett
Special topics courses introduced:
MDS 398 Persuasion and Argument in Media
MDS 398 Unmasking the Media
Christine Barrett was invited to help clarify questions that had arisen at the previous meeting regarding the coordination and tracking of minors for the Liberal Studies major and to address general questions about interdisciplinary minors that are created by individual students in the Liberal Studies program. The discussion was most helpful and clarified the questions that had arisen. The committee thanks her again for coming to the meeting.
The discussion of interdisciplinary minors also continued: The following proposal was agreed upon:
An interdisciplinary minor (18 credits) must involve at least two disciplines. There must be no hidden pre-requisites for any of the courses. Students will be required to take at least two (2) 300 or 400 level classes. All students interested in participating in an interdisciplinary minor must declare so with the minor coordinator or, for Liberal Studies majors, declare through the coordinator for the Liberal Studies program.
Because the committee was not at full strength, the above proposal was circulated electronically after the meeting and voted upon.
A few concerns came up that were not discussed at the meeting, so no vote was taken on the proposal.
