Members Present: Lisa Bier, Claire Novosad, Wes O'Brien (recording), Charles Wieder 

Called to order 9:35

Took up revisions to language for directions for submitting special topics section notifications to UCF.  This was part of a previous motion that was not passed because the language did not make clear the difference in procedures between submitting notifications for initial offerings of sections and submitting them for subsequent offerings of sections.

Discussed modifications to special topics section notification forms.  Members noted that the section notification forms are not always filled out consistently, and felt that one reason for this was that the wording on the form itself was confusing.  It was noted that the difference between "Section Title" and "Schedule Listing Title" as these appear on the form was not always clear to faculty offering the courses.

Another suggestion was made that adding a place on the form to indicate how many times the section had been offered would remind faculty that such offerings were limited to three, and would simplify monitoring the offerings.

Motion 1 

That the following copy be included on the UCF web page under the heading Procedure for Offering Special Topics Course Sections:

Initial procedures for offering Special Topics X98 course sections:

The faculty member develops the X98 course section and completes the Special Topics Section Notification form, available on the UCF web site.
The proposal is reviewed and approved by the faculty member's DCC.
Three copies of the completed Special Topics Section Notification form (along with any support materials, if necessary) are submitted to UCF.
A Special Topics Section Notification form for a Special Topics X98 course section must be submitted each time the course is to be offered in time for the course to be included in the schedule of classes.  Submission deadlines are included in the Forms section of the UCF web page under Special Topics Course.
Procedure for offering Special Topics X98 course sections that have already been offered:

Three copies of a new Special Topics Section Notification form or an updated photocopy of the original are submitted to UCF by the department chair or the course instructor in time for the course to be included in the schedule of classes.  Submission deadlines are included in the Forms section of the UCF web page under Special Topics Course.

That the Special Topics Section Notification Form be modified as follows:

The following copy be inserted after the line "Semester that the Special Topics Section will be offered".  The proposed insertion is:
