MINUTES - MEETING OF OCTOBER 20, 2005

NPIC - New Programs and Innovations Committee

Debbie Weiss, NPIC Chair, called a "virtual meeting" via email of the committee on October 17th. There were 3 items on the agenda:

Approval of the Minutes of the meeting of October 6th.

Notification of New Special Topics Courses.

Revised submission date for Spring Special Topics courses to appear in printed spring course schedule.

Approval of the Minutes of the October 6th meeting.

Jessica Kenty-Drane moved to approve the minutes of the meeting of October 6, 2005, with a second by Rachel Vaters-Carr. The vote was unanimous.

Notification of New Special Topics Courses - Seven new Special Topics Courses, were presented and logged:

HON 298-01                 Heavenly Cities, Earthly Kingdoms
HON 298-02                 Science and Writing
HON 298-03                 Issues in Science and Society
HIS 298                       Popular Culture in China
THR 398-01                  Intermediate Tap & Jazz
THR 498-01                  Props and Scene Painting
THR 498-02                  Acting for Film and Video

An eighth course, ECO 398/JST 398 Jewish Economic History, was presented without the required signatures. It was determined that Debbie Weiss would return this form to the department for the appropriate action to be taken and the form would then be submitted again.

Jessica Kenty-Drane made a motion that the seven courses presented be logged. The motion was seconded by Rachel Vaters-Carr. The vote was unanimous.

Deadline Dates for Special Topics Courses to Appear in the Printed Spring Course Schedule - The third item of business pertained to the deadline date for Spring Special Topics course submissions, when course instructors wish to ensure that their course will appear in the printed spring course schedule.  Debbie Weiss informed the committee that she had been asked by the UCF Steering Committee to speak with Bob Drobish about the June 1 date for information to be received by his office for guaranteed publication in the spring printed course schedule. It was felt that this date was unreasonably early. In discussing this with Mr. Drobish again, he agreed that we could use a September 8th date. NPIC would then require that the correctly executed forms be received by September 1.

The following motion was made by Rachel Vaters-Carr:

I move that the date to submit correctly executed Special Topics forms to NPIC for inclusion in the printed spring course schedule be changed from May 1 to September 1, per guidelines presented by Mr. Drobish.

The motion was seconded by Jessica Kenty-Drane. The vote was unanimously in favor.  The following represents the revised submission dates for Special Topics courses to appear in the printed course schedule.

Session                                        Date to Bob Drobish                 Date to NPIC

Summer Special Topics Courses    January 2                                  December 1
Fall Special Topics Courses            Feb. 1                                       December 1

Respectfully submitted,
