MINUTES - Meeting of December 7, 2006

The following committee members participated:  Deborah Weiss (Chair), Adam Abugri, Nancy Bobrek, Greg Cochenet, Charlie Dellinger-Pate, Tom Fleming, Joe Goralski, Doris Marino, John Scheuermann.

I. Notification of New Special Topics Courses - Four Special Topics Courses were presented and logged.

DESCRIPTIONS OF LOGGED COURSES:

MKT 398 - Film & Literature in Business
A seminar focusing on how business in general, marketing, and other aspects of business are depicted in film and literature.

MDS 298 - Contemporary Media Debates
This course will explore contemporary media debates that affect media consumers, media educators, media producers, media organizations and media policy makers.

MDS 398 - Television & Postmodern Irony
Since the death of irony after 9/11, American television has seen a resurgence of cultural satire and postmodern irony.  This course uses the study of contemporary network television for exploring postmodern cultural theory and a critical study of the American way of life.

MDS 398 - Profiling in the Mass Media
Explores the way media and technology is used to identify, target and influence groups and audiences.

II. By-Laws - By-laws will be presented at the upcoming UCF meeting for approval.
 
III. Special Topics Section Notification Request Form Update - Although this form has been sent to the UCF office, it has not yet been uploaded to the UCF website.  It is recommended that this occur ASAP.

IV. Update of course tracking -  A MS Excel spreadsheet was created for the tracking of Special Topics Course offerings. It contains Special Topics Course offerings starting with the Fall 2001 semester.
