DESCRIPTIONS OF LOGGED COURSES:

FLA 498 - World Lang, K-8 Methods&Mats
World Languages K-8; Methods, Materials, and Curriculum Development.  This 10-day institute offers a comprehensive overview of the methods, materials and curriculum development strategies for K-8 world language programs.

HIS 398 - The Age of Alexander the Great and the Hellenistic Period (Alex. Great & Hellenistic Per.)
The course will examine the time period of 360BCE-31BCE which covers the rise of Macedon and its dominion over mainland Greece and into Persia.  Major topics will include the character and impact of Alexander the Great and his historiographic legacy,  the spread of Macedonian imperialism and colonization into the areas of Asia Minor, Egypt and the Near East and the effect of Hellinization.  Crucial to the history of this period will be the use of primary sources including literacy accounts, inscriptional material and archaeology.

 

HIS 398 - American Environmental Hist.
Surveys American environmental history from the pre-European era to the present with a focus on how politics and culture have interacted with human-environment relationships. 


JRN 398 - Current Controversies in News
In this course, controversial issues facing the news media and public interest will be studied.  It will be taught in a seminar format with a series of guests.

JST 298 - Jewish Civilization
Introduces students to literature, history, religion and culture of the Jewish people. 

MGT 498 - Advanced Sp. Topics in Mgmt.
This course will consider the fundamental principles affecting labor relations in the workplace.  The focus will be on the statutory, judicial and administrative laws related to the organization of workers.  The course will also introduce students to wage laws, safety and health laws and anti-discrimination laws.

PHI 398 - African American Philosophy
This survey course will examine the various approaches to the study of African-American philosophical thought-including the vitalist (cultural essentialist), existentialist, pragmatist, "neo-theological" and postmodernist/post-structuralist.  The course will explore the philosophical importance of American slavery, art, hip-hop/rap and race.

THR 498 - Masks and Make-up
Practical and theoretical work in the art of make-up and masks as it applies to the stage, demonstrations, lectures, vocabulary.
