NPIC - New Programs and Innovations Committee              Feb. 19, 2009

Called to order at 9:35am
Present: G. Cochenet (Chair), G. Adams, Y. del Amo, T. Fleming, D. Marino, K. Skoczen

I. Old Business
A. After reviewing the new minor proposal for Forensic Science, and meeting with Dr. Valerie Andrushko to discuss our concerns, NPIC unanimously approved the minor in Forensic Science.  The proposal will be posted on the UCF website for all members to review before voting on the proposed minor at the MARCH 12th meeting.  Meanwhile, NPIC needs clarification on whether or not this proposal needs to go to the DHE.

II. New Business
A. Notification of 3 new Special Topic courses were presented and 2 were logged.

Description of logged courses

ENG 398 - The American Revolution and the Civil War Comparative
Explores the paradox of justifying independence in the American Revolution while validating the preservation of the Union in the Civil War.  The causes, ideologies, institutions and influences of these two events are examined comparatively.

SOC 298 - Drugs and Society
Examination of developments, issues, and/ or creative work in the field of drugs and society.

B. NPIC briefly discussed the possible creation of Program Curriculum Committees (PCC) to act in place of a Department Curriculum Committees, especially programs that are interdisciplinary.  Further discussion is needed.
