MEMBERS: K. Buterbaugh, C. Coron (chair), C. Durwin, A. Kumar, J. Manzella, H. Podnar, S. Selenkas , W. Shyam.

During the 2002-2003 academic year, PRAC and its members participated in the assessment related activities and, also, organized a number of meetings to provide a platform for the assessment dialog. The members invested significant amount of effort in analysis of current and alternative assessment models, with the goal of defining a process that will be attractive to SCSU departments and administration.

We finish this academic year with a list of accomplishments:  PRAC experienced a growth in membership

  •
PRAC prepared and collected a satisfaction survey results. Even though the number of received surveys was small, the conclusion could be made that majority of surveys expressed dissatisfaction with the current assessment process.
  • PRAC members participated in the definition of the mission statement and the UCF constitution language. Given its role and presence in the assessment process, PRAC mandate was reaffirmed.
  • PRAC organized a number of meetings with the goal of establishing the assessment dialog. Some of the successful meetings were with Dr. P. Smith and Dr. E. O'Sullivan.
  • PRAC participated in monitoring the assessment process. For example, PRAC attended the Psychology department implementation meeting.
  • PRAC has been collecting data about other assessment models, in order to define and suggest alternative models that might be more attractive to SCSU departments and be satisfactory for the administration. This process included, conference participation, gathering Internet resources and defining benchmarks. The PRAC members tried to find institutions that are comparable in scope, and are having successful assessment programs. PRAC expects this work to continue into the next academic year.

Future goals:

  • PRAC members will continue their efforts in trying to identify a workable model that will guarantee faculty involvement and satisfy administration requirements. In order to hear the opinions of SCSU community, PRAC plans to support the assessment dialog. PRAC will continue with dialog meetings, and might proceed with university wide forums, and even an assessment conference.
  • PRAC will continue with the web-site development, with links to assessment related documents.
  • PRAC might initiate an assessment newsletter publication, based on the expressed interest and financial resources.

PRAC would like to thank UCF members for their support.
