PROGRAM REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
 
Minutes of: November 20th 2003 (amended)

Present: L.L. Berman, C. Coron, J. Critzer, M. Moss, R. Mugno, H. Podnar, E. Schmitt, W. Shyam.

Started: 9:45am.

The meeting started with a discussion about monitoring our students' progress starting with the SCSU required placement exams. The members expressed their dissatisfaction with the level of student preparedness and concluded that there is a need for a clear definition of the SCSU strategy that will address the issue.

The meeting continued with the discussion about the current SCSU practices in managing the assessment process. Some of the members pointed out that the SCSU community at large might not be aware of the activities related to the assessment process. The members felt that the process should be open, with all the information being made publicly available. The channels for information sharing should be established, which will, in turn, have a positive impact on SCSU's assessment culture.

The short discussion about the changes in the current assessment process followed. The members concluded that no visible major changes had been noticed, but expressed their optimism about the future of the process.

Several members shared their experiences from the Fall Forum 2003 (Worcester,MA). The collection of the materials will continue, and will be shared at the next meeting.
