Program Review and Assessment Committee

Minutes of 2/17/05

Present: Cynthia Coron, Karen Cummings, Marianne Kennedy, Ray Mugno,
Winnie Shyam

The meeting was called to order at 10:05 a.m.

Announcements - Marianne Kennedy

  1. The American Association for Higher Education (AAHE) has cancelled
the annual conference on assessment scheduled to take place in Toronto
this year due to declining attendance and the fact that international
travel is becoming a problem for faculty in many institutions.
  2. NEEAN's annual dialog will be held in Massachusetts and will focus
on the Humanities this year. Faculty from the departments of History,
English and Philosophy will be encouraged to attend and those attending
    will be reimbursed.

The following items were discussed at this meeting:

SCSU Assessment Workshop - PRAC will be holding the assessment workshop
funded by a Faculty Development grant in March. The date, time, place and format of the workshop are being worked out. Details will follow.

CSU Assessment Conference - Eastern Connecticut State University will
be holding the Assessment Conference this year. Marianne Kennedy, Joe
Polka, John Critzer, Cynthia Coron and Herv Podnar are on the Planning
Committee.  The next meeting of the Planning Committee will take place on March 2
at the Central Office. PRAC's role in the conference was discussed.

Standards for Course Proposals - One of the members suggested we begin
thinking about the assessment component of the course proposal standards

which were discussed at a UCF meeting earlier this semester.  Discussion ensued on whether or not PRAC has been formally charged with
this task and it was decided that we needed to clarify the matter with UCF.

PRAC's role and Agenda for the year - This has been a recurring item of
discussion at PRAC meetings. PRAC does not have routine tasks as the
other subcommittees of the UCF. It is hoped that once the UCF constitution is

approved by the Senate, PRAC will have a more definite role.

The meeting adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
