PROGRAM REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes of: November 4th 2004
Present: K. Cummings, R. Mugno, H. Podnar (co-chair), E. Schmitt.
Started: 10:10 am.
At the beginning of the meeting, members reflected on the presentation given by Dr. B. Wright at the previous UCF meeting. From the debate that had been initiated during the presentation, it could be concluded that a number of SCSU faculty consider the assessment process as an additional burden to programs. A number of questions had been raised about the effectiveness of the assessment and its role. PRAC members agreed that in order to be successful, the assessment process needs to be developed on a voluntary basis. The faculty interested in applying assessment techniques to their programs should be encouraged and helped.
The discussion about a possibility of organizing a campus-wide assessment debate continued. PRAC will develop a grant proposal for a semester-long sequence of assessment related workshops. PRAC plans to invite a number of SCSU faculty to prepare a short presentation and share their experiences in assessing and improving their programs. The discussion related to the presented material would follow.
The last minutes of the meeting were spent on planning for the 2004 NEAN/NEASC Fall Forum assessment workshop.
