PROGRAM REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes of: December 8th 2005
Present: C. Novosad, R. Mugno (co-chair), H. Podnar, W. Shyam.
Started: 10:00am
At the beginning of the meeting, PRAC members reflected on the previous assessment workshop presentation given by J. Polka. The topic of the presentation was syllabus analysis. PRAC did apply for the extension of its grant to support additional assessment workshops. Members supported the idea of inviting speakers across campus to assure different schools representation. As the first step, PRAC will contact a number of assessment grant recipients.
PRAC plans to obtain electronic version of the Prof. Polka's presentation. The electronic materials form future workshops will be also collected, and posted on PRAC's website.
Prof. Polka's presentation touches upon the topic of syllabus analysis focusing on learning objectives. The study was done within a selected SCSU department. PRAC is considering a possibility to extend this research to more SCSU departments
The next topic of the discussion was about the usage of goals, objectives and outcomes in new course proposals. PRAC will devote time to recognize which (if any) of these should be included and/or required in the proposals. PRAC agreed that the course outlines should contain information that does not change from semester to semester.
