PROGRAM REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes of: March 30th 2006
Present: C. Coron (co-chair), C. Novosad, R. Mugno (co-chair), H. Podnar, E. Schmitt,
W. Shyam.
Started: 10:00am
PRAC started the meeting with the discussion about the effects of the recent UCF motion regarding the School Curriculum Committees' ability to introduce additional criteria on course and program proposals. Given the UCF voted resolution, PRAC members feel that the formal UCF guidelines that require strict assessment language, such as goals, objectives and outcomes statements, on the proposals might not be appropriate. PRAC could though proceed with recommending, but not requesting, such proposal statements. PRAC will devote time at the future meetings to compile samples of preferred course proposals templates with the assessment language included. The final decision about using such assessment language should be left to the departments, based on their accrediting bodies' requirements and/or departmental resolutions.
The meeting continued with the discussion about future assessment workshops. A number of potential speakers were identified to be contacted. PRAC considered changing the format of the workshops to introduce a debate component. The details about the workshops will be reported to the UCF body.
PRAC encourages SCSU faculty members to proceed with their registration for the upcoming CSU Assessment Conference. The registration link will be posted soon. The conference will be held on Central CSU campus on Friday April 28th.
