PROGRAM REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes of: September 22nd 2005
Present: C. Coron (co-chair), K. Cummings, C. Novosad, R. Mugno (co-chair), H. Podnar, E. Schmitt.
Started: 10:00am
After a short introduction at the beginning of the meeting, the members decided to invite Dr. M. Kennedy in her role as the Coordinator of the Office of Assessment and Planning to attend one of the next PRAC's meetings. PRAC's interest lies in the possible changes in SCSU policies related to the assessment process given the introduction of the first SCSU provost Dr. S. Williams.
The discussion about planning for the PRAC's series of assessment workshops for the Fall semester followed. PRAC would proceed with speaker recruitment by sending general invitation emails, following up with the SCSU faculty that were awarded assessment grants in the past, and would encourage department chairs to nominate speakers from their departments. In the next couple of meeting, PRAC will compile the workshops schedule, and proceed with the advertisement. UCF body will be informed about the planning and delivery progress.
Given the charge handed over to PRAC by UCF, to prepare guidelines for the assessment component of the new course proposals, a member suggested that a preliminary survey of existing course syllabi would be beneficial. Multiple methods of collecting syllabi samples were considered, with the suggestion to organize the collection on a voluntary basis. PRAC would focus their attention only to the written outcomes that might have been already included within the collected syllabi. PRAC plans to ask the UCF body to help with this collection process by submitting the best syllabi samples from their departments. PRAC could also gather related information from the new course proposals that have passed through the UCF pipeline.
