Program Review and Assessment Committee
Minutes for 11-08-2007
Present: Mark, Cameron, Cynthia Coron, Susan Felsenfeld, Ray Mugno ( Chair / recorder), Radha Narumanchi, Lisa Rebeschi, Elena Schmitt.
Guest: Marianne Kennedy, Assessment Coordinator.
We discussed the Program Review Task Force Draft Document with Marianne Kennedy. We expressed some concerns and questions. When asked what the primary purpose for Program Review, Kennedy responded that the primary purpose is program improvement and that additional resources are not a necessary consequence. She also informed us that Program Review will be done at SCSU and that we need a phase in cycle.
This document, when approved by UCF, will define the role of PRAC as evaluators of degree programs, much like the Academic Standards Committee of the Graduate Council. In order to do its job effectively, PRAC should have between 15 and 20 members. Guidance through the Program Review process would be provided by the Office of Assessment.
Additional resources from PRAC members are a distinct possibility including funding for training at events like the Summer NEANN workshop.
Criticisms of the Program Review were expressed. One member expressed the view that Program Review seemed to be all sticks and no carrots.
We will be discussing syllabi and external reviewers at our next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 AM.
