9:35a-10:50a

Present: C. Coron (ESC, Co-Chair), O. Gulacar (CHE),

1. Meeting with Professors Ro Conforti and Wes O'Brien, Department of Media Studies

• Ro and Wes expressed their concerns regarding some of the communication between the Department of Media Studies and PRAC. Open dialogue regarding this matter.
• PRAC member  met recently with Ro to assist with revisions to the MDS Self-Study.
• Discussion regarding the suggested revisions to the self-study report included: more explicit discussion regarding how the department and program supports the University mission, condensing the MDS program goals, and aligning specific student outcomes with these program goals. Suggestion was also made for the Department to think about program assessment earlier on in the program rather than primarily at program end.
• Ro and Wes will continue to work on revisions and resubmit report to PRAC by April 29, 2009.

2. Meeting with Professor John Critzer, Department of Political Science

• Discussion of suggested revisions to standards 1, 2, & 3 included more explicit discussion regarding how the department/program supports the university's mission, need to revise program goals and provide related student outcomes/objectives. The student outcomes listed within Standard 3 are mostly a restatement of program goals.
• Revisions to the self-study were requested for all 3 standards. Tricia Lin has offered to assist the Department with this work. Additionally, the Department may want to consider resubmitting this self-study for approval during first week of Fall in order to have sufficient time for revisions. Professor Critzer will let PRAC know of this decision by next week.

3. Announcements

• L. Rebeschi reported that Mark Cameron has resigned from PRAC and will not be serving on UCF next year. Members of the committee expressed their appreciation for Mark's service to the Committee.
• The English Department (Chair Mike Shea) has requested to postpone their self-study from the Fall 2009 semester until later in the Spring 2010 semester. Their assessment coordinator will be on sabbatical during the fall semester. Mike had requested this from Marianne Kennedy who deferred the decision to PRAC. Members of PRAC had no objections to this.

Meeting adjourned at 10:45am. Next meeting on Thursday May 7th, 2009 from 9:35a-10:50 in Math Dept Conference Room.

Respectfully submitted by,
L. Rebeschi (PRAC co-chair)
