PRAC minutes for April 22, 2010
Attendance: Susan Clerc, Scott Graves, Karen Cummings, Imad Antonios, Tom Radice, Tricia Lin, Charlie Dellinger-Pater, Susan Felsenfeld, Marybeth Fede, Martin Hartog, Patricia Kahlbaugh
Not Present: Gene Brady
The committee met to discuss the report submitted by the Marketing department. The report was prepared by the Chairperson, Dr. Shyam Lodha, Richard Kustin and Melvin Prince. Each member of PRAC reviewed and reported on standards 1-3 and then on the specific standards as has been the procedure followed all year. A representative from that department was unable to attend the PRAC meeting and so responses to the report and recommendations for revision were not made at that time. In addition, the department was not able to share views about the self-study or clarify any areas where questions might have existed. Patricia Kahlbaugh offered to meet with the department to go over the report , to share PRACs reactions to it and to make suggestions for revision. This meeting took place on April 26, 2010. In this meeting it was conveyed that although many standards were met, several important standards needed revision, and toward that end, several revisions were suggested.
Timeline: PRAC is scheduled to receive reports submitted by the departments of Music and English Wednesday 4/28, 2010 and to meet with these departments at the last PRAC meeting scheduled for May 6th. Because of this bottleneck, it would not be feasible to review Marketing's revisions. Given that PRAC would be unable to respond to any revisions made by Marketing in the next week, it was agreed that Marketing would submit revisions to PRAC by the end of the Spring 2010 semester and PRAC would take up the review of these revisions as Old Business at the beginning of the Fall 2010 semester.
Motion:
Whereas PRAC has many self-studies to review;
and whereas PRAC has limited time to review new program reviews, to review revised program reviews, to reflect on and be responsive to its own process, and to provide resources to departments undergoing program review,
Therefore be it resolved that program review and assessment be changed from a 5-year cycle to a 7-year cycle.
Voting in favor of the motion were 11, voting against was 0. The motion passed. (Please see the schedule for the 7-year cycle for details of this change.)
