Writing Board
There are three positions that are open due to the expiration of the terms of the members. Two, Mark Heidmann and Tony Maltese, would like to continue as members. The committee voted to approve both of them as members who wished to continue serving.
The third position is the one left open by Frank Harris, who has opted not to continue.
There were several persons whose names came up as candidates to fill the open Writing Board position. One is Jackie Smith, a new journalism professor at Southern who has a long career in the newspaper business as a reporter, editor and columnist. She is also a Southern graduate.
The second candidate is Charlene Dellinger-Pate, a communications professor who has attended Southern's Writing Board workshops and been involved in Writing Across the Curriculum programs at another university.
Mike Shea mentioned Christine Petto from history.
It was decided that the committee would wait until the fall semester to look at these and other possible candidates. It was suggested that the announcements be made in the future about Writing Board positions available so more people can become aware of it. Phil Smith suggested that he and UWIC together interview the candidates before making a decision. It was agreed this would take place in September.
It was suggested that the committee recommend that the Writing Board's charter contain a provision for alternates.
It was also mentioned as to whether in the future, the Writing Board should be an appointed committee or an elected committee.
CPR forms/Catalogs
Smith to meet with catalog people. He said at present, there is no one person who looks over the catalog and CPR forms. Ellen Beatty is responsible for editing the catalog. The committee will meet with Smith over the summer and present suggestions as to who and how the CPR/catalogs can be conducted so that the printing and production coincide, the CPR forms reflect the changes from departments in a timely fashion and that these, in turn, are reflected in the catalog.
