Proposed Changes for ENG 100 & ENG 101
UWIC began discussion r/t a proposed change in credit and course structure. The rationale for a credit increase from 3 to 4, was presented by N. Henderson. Eng 100 is viewed by many as the course that is most time intensive, and where students can really learn the skills to become better writers. Faculty burn-out after teaching 4 sections of ENG 100/101 for multiple semesters, is a serious issue. Committee members discussed the fact that many faculty members outside of the English Dept., are also correcting numerous papers from large classes without credit increases. Clarification regarding the additional credit was raised. Would the extra credit be similar to lab credits in other courses whereby students attend a 2 hr writing lab supervised by a faculty member or TA? Further discussion related to increases in credit and the university-wide impact will continue.
