Minutes of 3/20/03

Chair:  Shelley Bochain
Attending:  C. Barrett, S. Bochain, J. DeMarco, K. Gatzke, N. Marano, C. Ogbaa, K.Swenson

Discussion Topic:  Cross listed courses (Undergraduate / Graduate)

Issues related to courses that are dual listed at both graduate and undergraduate levels were considered.  When course enrollment is low departments can create independent study sections, or choose a dual listed course approach.  Dual listing promotes increased enrollment opportunities for courses that might otherwise be cancelled.  Several dual-listed courses were noted among the spring course offerings.  It was noted that the present fiscal climate might favor this approach.

Questions related to expectations for the under-graduate versus graduate student when in the same classroom were raised.

Faculty who have taught dual listed courses, will be invited to discuss these issues at our next meeting.
