The committee met to consider the Eng 217 Themes in Literature revision proposal, however the Eng department was not represented at the meeting.

Discussion addressed issues and concerns related to the change from "L" designation to the new "W" courses.  Ownership of the "W" course was discussed.  Is the "W" designation limited to the instructor or the course?  Several questions were raised regarding this issue.  Can faculty be prepared "generically" for teaching W sections, or must they be involved in the course development process?  Would "W" courses meet stringent criteria that any instructor (e.g. an adjunct faculty member) could teach?

Problems may develop if faculty fail to pursue the change from "L" to "W" designation.
Students presently complain they have difficulty finding enough "L" courses to meet their scheduling needs.
