University Wide Impact Committee

Meeting was called to order 9:50am

1) The committee first discussed the formulation of a description of a Deans' List to be included in the Undergraduate Studies catalog.  Several versions were considered.  Members consulted the definitions other universities use.  Shelley Bochain mentioned that she only heard from Dean George Appleby in response to her inquiry sent to all deans concerning the description of a Deans' List.

Members agreed on the following text:

"The Deans of the various Schools of Southern Connecticut State University recognize the high academic achievement of their undergraduate students."

This text is to be added in the Undergraduate Studies Catalog, in the section titled Recognition of High Achievement (appearing on p. 32 of the 2003-04 edition), under the heading ¬Deans' List (note the plural), and immediately preceding the criteria for inclusion on the Deans' List, as agreed by UWIC on 10/23/06, and presented to and accepted by UCF on 11/13/03.

Motion was made to accept the above text.  All present were in favor.

2) The committee also discussed the revision of one sentence in the introductory paragraph of the section titled Recognition of High Achievement (appearing on p. 32 of the 2003-04 edition) of the Undergraduate Studies Catalog. 

The sentence currently reads: "The Dean's List is published to recognize all accomplished students".  Members discussed revising it and formulated the following alternative as replacement:

"The Deans' List recognizes students who have achieved outstanding academic success".

Motion was made to accept the replacement.  All present were in favor.

3) In addition, the committee discussed its agenda for the future.  Several members remarked that several goals and issues that appeared in the original agenda (distributed by UCF at the start of the semester) were being discussed in more than one subcommittee.  There followed general discussion of plagiarism and of the revision of CPR forms at the departmental and university level as potential future agenda items.

Meeting was adjourned 10:50am.
