University Wide Impact Committee

Minutes of 10/23/03

Chair:  Shelley Bochain
Attending:  K. Gatzke, C. Ogbaa, S. DiFrancesco, S. Jackson, C. Barrett
Guests:  Lynn Kohrn, Rick Riccardi

UWIC revisited the Deans' List discussion with guests, Lynn Kohrn and Rick Riccardi who were invited to clarify the ability of Banner to pull the proposed Deans' List requirements.  After much discussion about the impact of "Incompletes" another revision was made to the proposal, which now reads:

The Deans' List is published at the end of each semester to honor the academic achievement of full-time matriculated undergraduate students with a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Students must have registered for and completed at least 12 credits in letter-graded courses during the semester in question, and have no "Incomplete" grades for the semester.  Students with "Incomplete" grades are not included on the initial Deans' List.  Upon completion of an "Incomplete" or in the case of a grade change, students may petition the Dean of the school for their major for inclusion on the Deans' List.

The committee addressed the issue of a part-time student's Deans' List, but neither Lynn nor Rick could think of a way Banner or supplemental report writers would be able to handle this request.  However, Lynn and Rick agreed to check with Eastern CT State University from whom we modeled most of this proposed change.

As catalog revision requests are typically due in February, it is the committee's goal to resolve the Deans' List issue in time for changes to be included in the 2004-2005 catalog.
