Writing-Across-Curriculum Committee (WACC)

January 31, 2008 MINUTES
9:30 - 11:00

Present: V. Breslin, K. Buterbaugh, T. Ferucci (ex-officio), N. Henderson (ex-officio), N. Marano, K. Marsland, D. Petroski, K. Ritter (ex-officio), D. Savage, D. Smith,

Not Present: K. Lacey, C. Rosado

1.  9:45 called to order

2.  Some committee members did not receive the attachment of new business items.  The chair will resend the attachment. 

3.  Introductions and Reintroductions.  The chair introduced Kelly Ritter as the new Interim Director of WACC. 

4.  Vote:  The committee voted to elect Kelly Ritter to represent "composition" on the committee.  She will be filling Nicole Henderson's seat as an ex-officio member. Unanimous vote.

5.  The chair requests all WACC members provide her with copies of their letters of appointment to the committee in order to establish an orderly calendar of rotations and replacements of members when their terms expire.

6.  WACC will discuss nominating a chair elect at the next meeting. 

7.  Consideration of and action on W-course proposals:

HIS 201:  U.S. History Through Film
Faculty: J. Madison
Committee Recommendation: Approved with recommendation to clarify revision weights, noting that W status is effective beginning Fall 2008.

GEO 270 Maps and Map Interpretation
Faculty:  E. West
Committee recommendation:  Approved. 
Committee Vote:  7- 0

  
GEO 311: Geography of the US and Canada
Faculty:  J. Hansen
Committee Recommendation:  Revise and resubmit.  Ask faculty member to clarify the revision requirement and the weighting of revisions.
Committee Vote:  7 - 0
 
 
8.  Preliminary discussion of new business items for semester included:
 
 a.  Writing Contest

 b.  Search for permanent Writing Program Director

 c.  Proposal for faculty survey about the W program and processes

 d.  Web site updates

 e.  Potential W-proposal form revisions

f.  Current suspension of W-course review process and concerns regarding program fidelity (e.g. course not implemented as approved).
 
 g.  Specification of policies governing transfers of W courses.
