1. Call to Order 9:45 a.m.
2. WACC Chairperson Report
a. Report from UCF
i. W- proposal guidelines - changes approved at UCF
ii. W- Course caps - UCF informed of discussion at Dean's Council regarding increasing caps for W courses
iii. Spring meetings - posted on UCF website. First WACC meeting scheduled for 1/27
3. WAC Program Director Report
a. Successful workshop on proposal development - higher attendance at all workshops this semester as compared to previous semesters
b. Provost search for new WAC Program Director
i. Scott will be meeting with Provost. The WACC will be involved in process - new person July 1st
ii. Contest - due February 23rd
1. SGO Funding
2. Groups will review and determine finalists then bring to full WACC
iii. Surveys are being returned - Scott sorting through results and will share with us
4. Writing Center Director Report
a. A lot of no shows this semester. Students who have not ever visited writing center tending to not keep appointments.
5. Assessment Report - Guest D. Carroll
a. Update on CSU assessment grant work in process to assess student writing and the WAC Program.
b. Second year of grant - focused on helping faculty develop better assignments.
c. 11 Faculty have signed up to participate. Need someone from EDU and NUR. Another call will be sent out.
d. Committee will meet during break to develop plan for reviewing papers.
e. Development Workshop for participants will be held in mid-January
f. Requesting ideas for resources that that WAC Program might need to facilitate continued success and support of faculty - there is some funding for this.
g. Plan to seek funding from sources outside of the CSU system to continue our assessment.
6. Review of Proposals (10:15-10:50 a.m.)
a. ART 270 - Introduction to Art Education - Erica Udoff - need to add instructor role in revision - grading scheme for draft/final - weighting of papers - revision requirement ( Revise and resubmit 8-0-0)
b. CHE 261 - Organic Chemistry II - Jan Pikul (Approved) 8-0-0
c. GEO 330 - Regional Geography of Europe - Gerda Ross-Reynolds (Approved 8-0-0)
d. ENG 301 - Introduction to Literary Analysis/Critical Theory -Vara Neverow (Approved 8-0-0) Suggestion - clarify what composite means in grading - add explanation of revision to the syllabus
e. SOC 490 - Urban Spaces and Places - William Holt (Approved 8-0-0)
f. WMS 100 - Dynamics, Gender, Race, and Class - Katherine Stephenson - need to clarify revision, weighting of grades (Revise and resubmit 8-0-0) Revision received and reviewed on 12/13/2010 (Approved 7-1-0)
g. WLL 211 - Introduction to Linguistics -Brun - (Approved 8-0-0)
7. Old Business
a. W-Course Approval Process: continue discussion regarding possible move to approve faculty rather than course by course approval
b. Assessment: continue discussion regarding ongoing assessment of approved proposals
c. Transition of W-Courses to LEP program: continue discussion regarding implications of LEP on WAC Program
